Do Ocean Currents Influence Climate?
Question:
1. Examine your climographs. What is the difference between the highest and lowest temperatures in
the climograph for each city?
Chile: The highest would be around 74 degrees and the lowest would be 60.Most likely dry
Norway:The temperature is at middle ranges but can drop to be cold. The lowest would be 25 and the highest would be 58.
Japan: From levels around 43 can increase to 80 during the year then drop back down again. There is very high rainfall surprisingly due to the climate ranges and changes. They can go up to 8 inches in rain during the summer time.
2. Which city is in a desert? How can you tell?
Chile. The highest would be around 74 degrees and the lowest would be 60.
3. Take a closer look at the Arica, Chile climograph. What can you tell about the seasons and the
months? How is this related to the hemisphere where Arica is located?
In the climograph of Arica ,Chile we clearly see how never rains and also how the temperatures are really high there. This can be a reason of being near a cold current.
4. Is there a relationship between the temperature of the ocean current and the coastal climate?
yes
5. Is there a relationship between the direction of the ocean current and the coastal climate?
yes
6. In general, on which side of the ocean basins are the cold currents? Warm currents?
The cold currents are mostly located at the south of the globe, and the warm currents are mostly located through the Equator and at the West.
